Is this a ridiculous letter? ACN tells GEJ to move around Lagos by helicopter (READ)

by Hauwa Gambo

A confused Jonathan? ynaija

The president, Goodluck Jonathan is scheduled to visit Lagos on Thursday, 18 April – and its key opposition mouthpiece, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) is having none of it. Understandably, since the party’s National Convention holds same day at the Onikan Stadium. To this extent, the party has written an open letter to the governor of Lagos, Babatunde Fashola to intervene in this ‘scheduling conflict’.

According to the letter, which was made available to YNaija, the president should either move his trip because, you know, they got there first, or at least spend some more tax payer money and “use a mode of intra-city transportation like helicopter, that will not engender closure of roads on a very, very busy day”

No, this is not satire. Yes, it was written on the official Action Congress of Nigeria letterhead. No, it wasn’t written by an intern – it was written and signed by its otherwise impressive spokesperson, Lai Mohammed.

Then, as icing on the cake, there is the not-so-subtle threat: “The implication of what will be seen as a calculated attempt to disrupt the convention and, by extension the merger, combined with the frustration that many of our supporters … will feel … may lead to a breach of peace, the consequences of which no one may be able to fathom”.

Whoa.

There is more snark that this letter is capable of generating (For instance: Did they seriously send this letter to Governor Fashola rather then the President’s office?!), but we’ll leave it to you to decide what you think of it.

Oh, one more for the snark shop: what serious political party begs the president (who belongs to another) to make its life easier?

Court will rise.

  1. The President should simply use a Helicopter Or Reschedule.

  2. It is interesting to see that our leaders know the dire state of the transportation mess we have in this overpopulated Lagos. It also beats me that the FG has not made any significant investment to build a new road or bridge or develop a form transportation to ease a huge chunk of its tax paying populace.

The loss of revenue due to the stalemate that is usually created when he or any top dignitary has an event in Lagos, makes any expense made on the helicopters extremely insignificant. Sometimes the lack of statistics to prove the effects of some of the visit of the “sacrosanct” ones denies one of deep insight into these issues. But, I think an open letter is an extremely wrong way to put the message across. Well it only shows the state of our polity, and the do or die nature of 2015. One would guess there would be common friends within these three parties, and there will be protocol offices for both events.

But as our leaders move from one type of indiscretion to another, Lagosians can only plan to get to work real early and get home real late on Thursday. And for those who have kids, lets hope the nanny doesn’t molest them before we come back.

    1. ℓ̊ hate both PDP CPC άnԃ ACN. They ǎ̜̣̍я̥ε̲̣̣̣ all full of shit. But †ђξ president has †ђξ right to visit any state he likes άnԃ @ anytime άnԃ ₪o one can contend τнατ. It beats ♏ҙ Wћεn ℓ̊ read posts by literates who lack knowledge of but to use their mobiles to write rubbish.

      1. The President has the right to visit anywhere he likes as long as traffic and other citizens are not held up without regards.

  3. The larger question to ask is why do roads have to be closed, sometimes for hours in advance, because the president is moving?

Lagos is the economic nerve centre of Nigeria and the loss to the Nigerian economy every time he comes to town warrants us asking him to stay away from Lagos

  4. The ACN must be mad & insane to write such a deranged letter asking the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Lagos inclusive) to transport himself and carry out his activities via air. They forget that Lagos is not occupied by ACN members only and the visit of the president supercedes any ‘local’ activity. The office of the President is sacrosanct and should be respected. Can ACN bar over 250million Nigerians represented by 1 man? Foolhardy is what I call it. Stupendous foolhardy.
Even in legal terms to the extent of its inconsistency, the visit of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria SUPERCEDES whatever activity a micro minute entity such as the ACN may be having.
Even God will not forgive them for such an insult not on the person of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, but to the sit of power, The office of the President of the Federal Republic and Nigerians as a whole.
Long Live the President, Long Live the the Federal Republic of Nigeria

    1. Mr pdp I think u don’t n lagos

      1. And where do I stay Mr ACN? I’m not affiliated to any of Ʋr Dumb political parties that lack ideologies man. Just let the President conduct his activities without fooling urselves. ACN has brought more hardship on the average lagosian already. I remember during Fasola’s re-electioneering campaign he said there are only 3 states in the federation that have banned okada and he mentioned them being Abuja, Rivers and Akwa-Ibom. Shortly after he was elected, he banned them. Hypocrysy.

    2. Eyo, it is apparent you know little beyond what obtains in Nigeria.
Go and find out from your kinsmen who live in England in the early 2000s, Mr Ken Livingstone (Mayor of London) did worse to Mr John Major (PM) of United Kingdom!
That is Territorial Politics and opposition politics in action.
The sky did not fall because of it!
