A mother stopped traffic at a roundabout as she gave birth in the passenger seat of her car.
The road had to be closed by emergency services when Elizabeth Latham’s third son, Zayn, was born.
Her husband Paul was rushing her to hospital when she begged him to pull over.
She feared he was going to have to deliver their baby but paramedics arrived just in time to take over.
Mr Latham was driving when he had to pull over at the roundabout in Salisbury, Wiltshire, because she could not hold on any longer.
The bartender, 25, started to give birth in the back of their Citroen Picasso and Mr Latham, 31, called an ambulance.
Luckily a paramedic arrived in time to deliver Zayn, who weighed 8lbs 1oz.
Mrs Latham admitted she should have left for hospital sooner.
She said: ‘It all happened so quickly. I stayed at home too long and there was no way I could get to the hospital in time.
‘We just stopped the car by some bushes and there was nothing I could do about it. I had him there and then.
‘I thought my husband was going to have to deliver him, which would have been pretty scary.
‘But luckily the paramedic got there just in time and they were brilliant.
‘I can’t thank him enough for what he did.’
The paramedic’s car and another ambulance blocked the road so Mrs Latham could give birth without other vehicles driving by.
She added: ‘I heard later on the radio that the road had been shut and I thought people might be wondering why.
‘It was because I was having Zayn in our car.
‘It was quite stressful but I’m just glad to be home now with our lovely baby boy.’
