“My staff are disloyal” – Jimoh Ibrahim fires all Air Nigeria workers, closes down airline

Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim

Air Nigeria has suspended its operations for the next 12 months and sacked a substantial number of its workforce. The suspension is set to commence from September 10, 2012.

The management of the airline which operates national, regional, and international routes revealed this in a statement released yesterday by its chairman, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim.

According to reports, he said it is increasingly difficult to continue investing in an airline bedeviled with “staff disloyalty” and an harsh operating environment.

Ibrahim said about 50 “loyal” workers from various departments of the airline had been selected with a mandate to recommence business within a year.

He stated that other employees are considered relieved of their appointment.

He said: “Corporations are like individuals, who naturally will get sick. The usual thing to do is to admit them in hospitals, either for corporate surgery or for treatment, as the case may be.

“During such periods, it is not likely that they will work in full capacity, depending on the nature of the illness.”

He, however, assured the public of the airline’s resolve to return to full operations saying, “We are strongly committed to ensuring that Air Nigeria survives.”

The airline advised passengers to contact agents from whom they had purchased tickets for a refund.

  1. "Disloyal"? Seriously?

You can only earn loyalty if and when you take good care of your employees, you simply can not ask for something you obviously don't deserve, esp when you treat them like trash.

    Is 'working without pay' loyalty?

    Oh! Please…

  2. The National Association of pilot and Engineers insisted that the issue of late payment of salaries needed to be resolved for the airline to move forward and that was defined in jimoh ibrahim's dictionary as disloyalty. He sacked the pilots involved in the strike and mandated staffs to sign the loyalty form which they did 2 months ago. While staffs were signing loyalty forms in july, may salary was still pending talkless of june and july.Workers were sent on compulsory leave of 4 weeks while the few ones left to handle the international flights with sahcol and the egyptian crew were operating without payment. After Ncaa's protest, the cabin crew amongst this few were given 15 thousand naira per trip to silence ncaa. The others remained unpaid till date.Myself included.Medical facility and staff travel facility were withdrawn prior to this closure.Relevant software meant for daily operations were removed from the systems due to non payment to vendors, fuellers refused to fuel our airplanes due to non-payment.Jimoh is a failure and a jig in the hands of corrupt politicians.

  3. Jimoh must think he runs a school for him to close up an entire airline operation over disloyalty. What was his criteria for 'diagnosing' disloyalty. Jimoh Ibrahim is a perfect example of 'money miss road' with no adequate understanding and passion for airline business. On behalf of my friends at Air Nigeria, GO TO HELL JIMOH!!!!
