President Goodluck Jonathan put an abrupt stop to his state visit to Botswana and Malawi further fuelling speculation about the state of health of the first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.

Reuben Abati, the special adviser to the president on Media and Publicity had in a statement on Saturday, while announcing the president’s trip, said President Jonathan is expected to arrive back in the country on Wednesday leaving many wondering the reason behind his hasty return.

According to reports, the president was said to have attended a luncheon organised in his honour in Gaborone, Botswana, when he received a message which appeared to have made him uncomfortable necessitating his early return back in the country.

However, contrary to speculation that he left his delegation to visit his wife who is believed to be receiving treatment in a German hospital for a yet to be disclosed ailment, the president returned yesterday evening with his delegation.

The presidency is yet to give the reasons behind the sudden change in the president’s itinerary.
