Adenike Owolope has been arraigned before an Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State for allegedly spending her employer’s money on playing the lottery known as Baba Ijebu.

The 44-year-old woman who worked in the sales and finance department of a cosmetics company, Remdocs Nigeria Limited, Ikotun was charged on a one count charge of stealing before the presiding magistrate, Mrs M. B. Folami.

Reports say the woman who had access to company funds spent about N1.96m on the lottery with the hope of returning it back when she finally wins.

She, however, failed to win before her crime was discovered.

After pleading not guilty to the crime, Owolope was granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Owolope later told reporters that the whole trial was orchestrated to discredit her saying she did not commit the said crime.

“The truth will surely come out,” she said, reiterating that she was accused wrongly.

She was, however, remanded in Kirikiri Prison, Lagos pending when she will meet her bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till July 3, 2013.
