The usually quiet Sunday routine was shattered today in the Federal Capital Territory when sounds of gun fire were heard from no other place than the Presidential quarters, Aso Rock.

Details were sketchy at the time of the incident but it has been revealed by reports that the gun shots were the results of a shoot out between captured Boko Haram suspects and officials of the Department of State Security Services.

The suspected militants reportedly tried to disarm some SSS operatives guarding them and this was the cause of the gun battle.

Update: The gun battle emanated from the Headquarters of the State Security Service located opposite the Presidential Villa at the Three Arms Zone, Abuja.

According to the SSS spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar, the attack was an attempted jailbreak at the Service headquarters by suspected members of the Boko Haram Islamic militant sect.

She said, “What happened was that the suspects’ handlers went to feed the detainees here but suddenly they attacked him with their handcuffs, disarmed him and started shooting.

“The military was quickly called in before they could do any harm and that is responsible for the shootings you heard.

“It was an attempted jailbreak but it has been brought under control.”

More details shortly.
