Nigerian woman being treated for serious burns after man threw acid on her face

A woman is being treated for serious burns to her face and arms after opening her front door to a stranger who threw acid in her face.

The 28-year-old victim from Romford, Essex, was rushed to a specialist burns unit following the horrific attack on Tuesday.

She first answered her door just before 9pm to a man asking for Michelle, which is not the victim’s name, police revealed today.

The man went away, but returned 30 minutes later and squirted an unidentified substance in her face when she opened the door again.

The woman managed to shut her door and rinsed her face with water while an ambulance was called.

The suspect is described as white, short and aged about 20. He was wearing black clothing and spoke with a foreign accent.

Today, a stain was still visible against the door of the two-storey terraced house where it is believed the woman lives with her sister and two children.

A neighbour of the woman said she heard ‘shouting and crying’ after the attack.

The neighbour, who declined to be named, said: ‘I had just had a shower and was about to go to bed.
‘I didn’t see anything. I heard the lady that was going into the hospital. I could hear them shouting or crying.

The neighbour added: ‘It sounded like she was grunting or calling out for somebody.’

It comes after a woman was charged with a separate acid attack on a shop worker that left her with serious injuries.

Naomi Oni, 21, suffered burns and lost her hair and eyelashes after the chemical was thrown at her in Dagenham, east London on December 30.

Police this week charged Mary Konye with the attack. There is no suggestion the two cases are linked.
