Now try explaining to a hungry, uneducated, bloodthirsty mob, that you did not chop government money, from the comfort of your air-conditioned sedan car, and tell me how that goes when we meet in the afterlife…
The Gavels that purport to represent us in our National Assembly are a very interesting bunch. For those of you who have taken the time to watch a sitting of these geezers on AIT, one thing immediately becomes obvious, they almost certainly never form a quorum, unless of course, appropriations are being discussed. In the two years leading up to May 29, 2013, the Reps had passed only 60 out of 512 Bills presented before them. The Senate has fared worse.
So I find it quite telling that they would complain about the volume of the amendments proposed by the Prez to the 2013 Budget. Sadly, and in keeping with the script, the Senate, rather than roll their sleeves up, hunker down and read the damned documents, have decided to shelve it until September. Not too surprising as it is summer…
But the fact that our Gavels find it difficult to read should not come as a surprise to anyone. After all, they come from a country that has the largest number of out of school children on God’s Green Earth. I mean, when we have just 62,682 kids registering for the National Common Entrance, you know that we are in trouble. Which is why I find Comrade Tambuwal’s wish for a revolution not a little troubling.
Consider this dear reader, you live in a two-bit banana republic (no, Nigeria is not a failed state, thanks Elliot Ross), where knowledge has little or no value, and someone who obviously has the means to hightail it out of here at the slightest scent of trouble is calling for a revolution? The harsh reality is that those of us who think we are middle class are those who would be left behind. Now try explaining to a hungry, uneducated, bloodthirsty mob, that you did not chop government money, from the comfort of your air-conditioned sedan car, and tell me how that goes when we meet in the afterlife…
Bits and Bobs
Oh the contradiction! “We will make sure Nigerians have fuel,” said NNPC suits while just outside their towers in Abuja, and all over Lagos, people began to queue up as Nigeria runs out of petrol. Meanwhile NUPENG insist on continuing to use the blunt tool that strikes have become.
Uncle Rotimi lends credence to the argument against state police by threatening to stop giving tithes to the men-in-black in his state.
Mrs. Momodu’s son, Ibrahim, was shot by a policeman or woman. The government of the state promised that justice would be swift. Mrs. Momodu is still waiting.
Finally, football – serious analysts keep fawning over Big Boss’s team in the Confed Cup. Joke analysts, keep calling for a white guy.
