Patience Jonathan: “I can’t call to confirm her return… is she my mate?” – Spokesman

by Isi Esene

The spokesman of the nation’s first lady, Ayo Osinlu has expressed frustration over the barrage of questions directed at him over the unexplained absence of Mrs Patience Jonathan.

Mrs. Jonathan has not been seen in public for a couple of days arousing speculation that she had been flown abroad for a medical procedure purportedly to treat food poisoning.

Since the media scrutiny on the first lady’s health condition began, there has been no clear official statement from the presidency which tended to further fuel speculation about the severity of her reported illness.

When pressed for information on the true position of the situation, Osinlu said, “Nobody is going to put a gun on my head and force me to talk when I have no fresh information. My position is not different from what I told Daily Trust.”

Pressed further to give a possible return date of the wife of the president, the apparently miffed spokesman responded saying, “I don’t know. I don’t have any information on that. You don’t expect me to call her and ask her, ‘when are you returning?’ Is she my mate? Ours is to ensure everything is in order to receive her once her return is made known to us. I do not have fresh information on that.”

He, however ,debunked online reports which indicated that the First Lady was flown out of the country in an emergency situation saying, “I can tell you authoritatively that the first lady was not lifted by any air ambulance to anywhere. All those things are lies.”

We shall continue to monitor information as they trickle out on the health condition and whereabouts of Dame Patience Jonathan.
