He seems to be calming down.

Governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has held a meeting at the Presidential villa, Abuja, with President Goodluck Jonathan over the impeachment moves against him by members of the state House of Assembly.

During the meeting which had the ‘impeachment issue’ as the main topic, Jonathan reportedly assured Al-Makura that he had no hand in the political storm he’s currently enmeshed in.

An anonymous source from the Presidency told Punch that although the meeting was cordial, the elephant in the room could not be avoided as the issue of the impeachment process was raised and the President supposedly made it clear to the governor that he had no hand in his travails,” the source said.

Also, an associate of the governor revealed that Al-Makura believes the President’s assurance of non-involvement in the impeachment suit.

He said, “His Excellency told us that he met with the President and that the man (Jonathan) told him that he had no hand in the impeachment move. Of course, the governor said he had no reason to doubt the President,”

Meanwhile, the members of the house of assembly belonging to the PDP are reportedly divided over the impeachment move against the governor with eight out of the 20 members (all PDP ) who signed the impeachment notice, making a surprising turn-around.

In another twist to the situation, Al-Makura has emphatically declared that the impeachment move against him would not stand.

The governor revealed this through his Senior Special Assistant (Public Affairs), Alhaji Abdulhameed Kwarra when he spoke with journalists in Abuja.

Kwarra insisted the governor was yet to be served the impeachment notice, while also attributing the plot to lack of legislative decorum and immaturity.
