A Illinois high school cymbal player who dropped his instrument during “The Star-Spangled Banner” has won the nation’s hearts by recovering from his mishap with an impromptu salute.

Things started out fine for a young high school cymbal player (left) whose band at Eisenhower Junior High School in Darien, Ill. was performing the “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
The unnamed student, from Eisenhower Junior High School in Darien, Ill. was caught on camera looking perplexed after one of his discs clattered to the floor midway through the performance. A broken handle was still in his hand.
With fellow band members stifling laughter, at one point he looked as if he’d easily burst into tears.

Cybalic loss: The cymbal in the young musician’s right hand falls to the floor, leaving him only the strap.
But the quick-thinking musician decided that he could still pay tribute to his nation.
Straightening himself up, he drew his hand up to his forehead and saluted the flag for the rest of the song.
Footage of the performance was posted to YouTube last week and has since been seen more than 2 million times.
