Following reports that work has started on the renovation of the Police College located in Ikeja, Lagos, YNaija visited the college to confirm its authenticity but our correspondent was not allowed to gain access to the premises.

Reno Omokri, the Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on New Media had gleefully announced on the social media network, Twitter, that the Transformation Agenda of the President has found its way to the college urging those who are interested in confirming his assertion to do so.

Omokri had on Friday tweeted, “Have you passed by the Police College Ikeja? Can testify that there is ongoing rehabilitation work there? Pres. GEJ is keeping his promise.”

But when we visited the College, this morning, to see the extend of renovation, our correspondent’s request to gain access to the premises was declined by the OC Provost of the College ostensibly due to security purposes.

We gathered that the management of the College are still under probe for allowing the ChannelsTV crew gain access to the College premises which resulted in a documentary exposing the inhumane living conditions of police cadets in the College.

The College is described by some as the premier Police Training College in the nation.

Following the ChannelsTV documentary, President Goodluck Jonathan had in January paid an unscheduled visit to the premises to take a look for himself and promised to do something to improve the cadets’ living condition.

The president who was accompanied on the visit by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, Mamaah Tsafe; the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Umar Manko and other military and air force officers, inspected the college hostels, kitchen, dining hall and the Officers’ Mess.

During the visit, Jonathan said the Television documentary was produced to tarnish the image of his administration describing it as “a calculated smear campaign against the government.
